P&O Ferries and DFDS freight space agreement giving you access to a departure every 36 minutes between Dover and Calais

Dear Customer,

Today I am very excited to share with you the announcement that we have agreed with DFDS to open our freight space to one another and allow drivers to board the next available sailing in Dover or Calais, whether the next ferry is operated by us or by DFDS.

The Dover Strait is the single busiest route for trade between Britain and the EU. The agreement – which starts this summer - covers all eight ships on Dover-Calais including the P&O Ferries-owned Spirit of Britain, Spirit of France, Pride of Canterbury, Pride of Kent and Pride of Burgundy and the DFDS-owned Cote des Flandres, Cote des Dunes and Calais Seaways.

By combining our schedules this summer we can offer you more options, more flexibility, and take a further step forward in our commitment to driver welfare, by reducing the time drivers spend waiting in the port, and making end to end journey times up to 30 minutes quicker.

The agreement means that while the schedule is shared, the booking and check-in process will remain the same. Our customers will check in with us, and DFDS customers will check in with them. At check-in, drivers will be allocated space on the next available sailing – this could be a DFDS or P&O Ferries vessel – but regardless of which vessel the driver sails on, you will stay safe in the hands of our sales team for all accounting.

We are grateful for your continued support, and you have told us in your feedback that you absolutely need a fast and efficient route to market. I hope that this means you are as excited as we are about the opportunities this agreement brings on the principal UK-EU trade route on which millions of consumers rely. We are determined to continually evolve, innovate, and provide the best way to keep vital freight services running with goods moving in the quickest and most cost-effective way.

Thank you and as always, I look forward to seeing you or your drivers when you next ship with us.

Kind regards,

Kim Swan
